McClain Calls on Nelson to Support Gorsuch

The District 23 state representative says Gorsuch is an excellent Supreme Court nominee and Senator Bill Nelson should put politics aside and vote to confirm him.

February 20, 2017

OCALA, Fla. — Today, State Representative Stan McClain made the following statement regarding President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch: "President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch, is an outstanding candidate for our nation’s highest court. He is widely respected on both sides of the aisle, and I urge Senator Bill Nelson to vote to confirm him. "In the decade since Nelson and his Senate colleagues unanimously confirmed Judge Gorsuch for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, he has earned a reputation as a fair-minded jurist, committed to faithfully upholding the Constitution. His record and his public statements demonstrate that he understands the proper role of the judiciary: to interpret the law, not make it. His understanding of and dedication to the separation of powers makes him exactly the kind of justice the Supreme Court needs. "I understand the pressures of politics, and I imagine Senator Nelson and his Democratic colleagues are getting an earful from various interest groups. In this case, however, I hope he will put politics aside and come together with his colleagues on the other side of the aisle to confirm this superb candidate for our nation’s highest court."

The three-term Marion County Commissioner pledges fiscal responsibility and conservative values in his campaign to succeed Rep. Dennis Baxley.

February 4, 2015

OCALA, Fla. — Today, Stan McClain announced his candidacy for State Representative. McClain, a three-term Marion County Commissioner and small businessman, is pledging to run on a platform of fiscal responsibility, economic growth, and conservative values. Among his highest priorities is insuring the clean water of Florida for future generations. "I believe in Marion County, and I believe in Florida," said Commissioner McClain. "This central part of Florida is the backbone of our state. We are hard working families who want to build and grow, and we haven't forgotten the place that our values have in making our community strong. I want to do everything I can to make Florida the safest and most prosperous state in America." McClain is running for District 23, which will be vacated by respected legislator Dennis Baxley, who is running for the State Senate in 2016. District 23 is contained within the eastern half of Marion County. It is the largest House district in Marion and the only one that does not overlap with another county. "Stan McClain has a track record of excellence," said local businessman and Chamber leader Ken Ausley. "As a county commissioner, he outlined a plan for prosperity that included less taxes and less regulation, and the entire business community will be glad to see him take that same vision to the state legislature." Former Speaker of the House and local businessman Larry Cretul added: "Stan McClain has broad support in our community because he works hard, takes service seriously, and never stopped listening. I'm happy to be supporting him out of the gate in this new leadership endeavor." And finally, State Representative Charlie Stone also stated: "I know Stan to be an authentic conservative who is not going to be swayed by political expediency. I'm glad to add my early support to his campaign." McClain's candidacy will focus on bringing together the small business and community leaders in Marion County to maintain a strong leadership place in Florida's economic future. McClain expressed deep appreciation to this early support from the local community: "Ausley, Cretul, and Stone have been forces for strength in Marion County, and I will lean on them heavily for counsel during this campaign and in future service. I'm excited about this campaign. We will win, and we will move Florida forward."
